On October 13, 2018, MakerSpace Charlotte put on the largest showcase of member projects we have ever displayed at this year’s Charlotte Mini Maker Faire and received an impressive reception and broad appreciation!

Maker Faire is part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new! As a celebration of the Maker Movement, it’s a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. Faire gathers together tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, food artisans, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. Makers come to show their creations and share their learnings. Attendees flock to Maker Faires’ (around the world) to glimpse the future and find the inspiration to become Makers themselves.

We started planning early this year with a group of enthusiastic members who met weekly to discuss an array of projects, work out details, order supplies and collaborate together while making memories and gaining rapport with one another. We ended up with fantastic projects in electronics, virtual reality, cosplay, science, wood working, recycled metal art, pottery, music/instruments and so much more.

Do Androids Dream of Maker Faire?

Over the past few years we’ve selected the booth adjacent to Carolina Combat Robots operated by MakerSpace board member Chuck Butler. We’ve done so because it attracts so many attendees and gives us an opportunity to try and engage with visitors as they walk by. This year I must admit that our MakerSpace Charlotte booth was a standout attraction all on its own. You might say WE were the big draw attraction for visiting attendees (no offence Chuck you always put on a magnificent show)!

Next Year!

If you think you may want to contribute your maker ideas and skills for next years exposition… I would like to cordially invite MakerSpace Charlotte members to join the “Maker Faire Club”. You with have lots of fun, get great support & camaraderie. Together we will make our booth a place of pride for all and a wonderful representation of what a MakerSpace can be!
